ABC Project Overview

The initial focus of the project was to enable grade level proficiency for underprivileged rural students who otherwise will become school dropouts. Based on the positive feedback on the pilot, ABC project’s scope was expanded to benefit all students, ranging from academically challenged to highly ambitious, in TNF adopted schools.  As of 2017, ABC projects are operational in 50 government or government aided schools across 10 districts in Tamil Nadu and has enriched more than 50,000 students.

The 3 core components of the ABC initiative are:

  • A – Achieving grade level proficiency
  • B – Boosting the morale
  • C – Championing for higher aspirations

ABC Project – Salem District (4 Schools)

South Florida supports four Government Schools:

  1. Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Mecheri
  2. Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jarikondalampatti
  3. Government Higher Secondary School, Neikarapatty
  4. Government Tribal Residential Higher Secondary School, Arunothumalai

Impact Summary

  • Baseline Tests & ABC Classes (6–9): 304 students
  • Soft Skills Training (Class 10): 499 students
  • College Exposure Visits (Class 12): 148 students
  • Essay & Elocution – “Libraries Are Temples”: 45 students
  • Nutritional Supplements (Class 6): 202 students
  • Sweater/Uniform Distribution: 184 students

Total Beneficiaries: 1,348 students
Teacher Training: 7 teachers + 1 coordinator (Aug 20–21)


 ABC Project – Mayiladuthurai District (Korukkai School)

Led by Mrs. Malathi Palaniappan, activities at Government Higher Secondary School, Korukkai included:

  • Baseline Test & ABC Classes: 38 students
  • Soft Skills Training: 57 students
  • College Exposure Visit: 57 students
  • Essay & Elocution– “Libraries Are Temples”: 9 Students
  • ➡ Total Beneficiaries:161 students
  • Teacher Training in Trichy (Sep 3–4) –  1 teachers + 1 coordinator
 

Mann Vaasanai – 2025 Update

Distribution of Braille Talking Pens & Educational Assistive Devices for Visually Impaired Students

As part of the Mann Vaasanai initiative, the TNF South Florida Chapter supported the distribution of Braille Talking Pens and Educational Assistive Devices to enhance learning opportunities for visually impaired students in Tamil Nadu.

In 2025, 18 complete assistive learning sets were provided to the students of:

Government Middle School for the Visually Impaired, Salem

Beneficiaries: 18 visually impaired students
Support Provided:

  • Braille Talking Pens

  • Educational Assistive Devices

  • Learning support materials for improved reading and comprehension

This project aims to strengthen inclusive education by equipping visually impaired children with accessible learning tools that encourage independence, confidence, and improved academic performance.
